Hello Everyone!
I was asked to make another baby card – for a little boy this time. They wanted a pop-up card like I had created before – so I was happy to oblige! I obviously HAD to use the Mama Elephant “Wish upon a Star” stamp set again – it’s just so perfect!
For the front of the card I ink blended the background using Tumbled Glass Distress Ink. Then, I stamped the German sentiment in Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide Ink. I stamped the images from Mama Elephant’s “Wish Upon a Star”. I colored them using Kuretake Zig Markers and adhered them with foam tape.
To decorate the inside I used a stripe stencil and ink blended Tumbled Glass to create a wallpaper like effect. Then I added a strip of Hero Arts “Mist” cardstock to the bottom. To add a little extra touch, I die cut the frame of the Framed Tags artist Mat out of white cardstock and just cut off the scalloped edge. I added this decorative edge right above the blue cardstock to add a bit more interest to the wall background.
For the pop-up crib I used the Framed Tags – Artist Mat and Lafayette from Mama Elephant. I cut a strip of white cardstock that measured 3.5 x 2.35″. I then used a rectangle die to add a window to the center. I used the tag from the Lafayette framed tags for add the flourish at the bottom of the panel and cut 0,25″ strips of white cardstock for my “spindles”. I scored the panel at 0,25″ on either side and this creates the sides for my crib.
For the front and end of the bed I used the Framed Tag Artist Mat gift tag die. I cut is twice out of white cardstock, trimmed the top of to make it even, trimmed it length wise down to 2.6 ” and added the arch using the curved tag from Lafayette Framed Tags again. I also added a heart to the panel that will become the foot of the bed using the heart die from the Lafayette Framed Tags.
I adhered the strips to the side panels of the crib. I added adhesive to the scored flaps and added them to the other pieces to create a crib. Now you have to be careful! If you want to make a standalone crib you would just adhere it normally. But since we are adhering the bed to a card base to create a pop-up effect I created the crib differently. For the front side of the crib I made sure the spindles are on the back. For the back side you want to make sure that they are also on the back because the recipient will look directly at them and it just looks much nicer if they are on the back. I really hope this makes sense – but you can definitely see it in the video.
I added glue to the top end and the right side of the bed. I adhered the back to the back of the inside of the card, pressed it flat and then closed the card to adhere the top end. This finishes my pop up bed!
To create a shelf I cut a strip of white cardstock, measuring 2.8 x 0.6 “, I used the curved Lafayette tag again to add the flourish to the bottom and I cut off the bottom corners to make it look more like shelf. I stamped the names of the sweet baby girls using the Mama Elephant “Lot’s of Letters” in Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide and cut the out using the Brother Scan’n’Cut. I added the shelf and the blocks for the names using foam squares.
For the mobile, I added a strip of the same blue cardstock, measuring 5.4 x 0.3″. I scored it at 0.25 and 2.7″. Then, I die cut the starry mobile from the Sky Bursters cover die once out of white and once out of white sparkle cardstock. I adhered the two layers together to create stability and then glued it to the inside of blue cardstock strip. I added adhesive to the right side and the back of the blue cardstock rectangle, adhered the skinny side to the back of the panel, laid it flat and then closed the card to create a second pop-up mechanism for my card. (Sorry for the unusual measurements. I measured everything in centimeters and this is the conversion for inches.)
To finish it off I added a cute critter from the “Stackable Cuties” stamp set. I watercolored it using Kuretake Zig Markers and adhered it to the bottom of the bed. I really hope you liked this one. Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to make sure to describe all of the steps in case someone wants to recreate this!
Thank you for stopping by and have a great day!
