Hello Everyone!
I really love underwater scene cards and I really wanted to try to incorporate an actual liquid element. I decided to give it a try with the “Little Mermaiden Agenda” Stamps from Mama Elephant!
First, I ink blended the background with Salty Ocean und Peacock Feathers Distress Ink. Then, I stamped the images und watercolored them using Kuretake Zig Markers.
Now comes the messy part! Man, it took me a while to figure this one out. I first tried using water. This works, but it wasn’t the effect I wanted. I wanted the shaker bits to sink slowly like they actually would in the ocean. Then I read online, that someone used disinfectant gel. This did not work at all. Nothing moved in that stuff. Then I tried oil. This was definitely the winner! It gave the effect I wanted! But you need to make sure, that the shaker bits you use are “heavy” enough to move. I tried using glitter, but it was way to light to move on it’s own – it just stuck to the inside of the pouch and that was that.
So clear mineral oil and sequins or rhinestones worked really well for me. To seal the pouch I used a kitchen vacuum sealer and the pouches it came with. When you seal the pouch you will inevitable have some air bubbles in there. I poked a small hole in the top of the pouch, carefully pushed the air out and then sealed the hole with hot glue. If any of the oil comes out, be sure to clean the area with alcohol (or something similar) to make sure the glue can stick to the surface.
After that, I adhered the the pouch using scor-tape and then added foam adhesive around the top of the panel so give the liquid enough room to move. For the front of the card I used the Mama Elephant Scales Cover CC and Oval Scalloped Frames CC. I also cut the Ribbon Banner from two shades of teal cardstock, adhered it using tape runner and stamped the sentiment from “Picnic with Friends” with Versamark ink and heat embossed it in white. I added it to the lower part of the window and added everything to the background. I added my sweet little Mermaiden with liquid glue and also added some sea grass to the bottom from the “Marine Friends” stamp set.
To finish the card I adhered it to an teal colored A2 sized card base. Even though it was quite a messy process to figure this out I really like how it turned out. I hope you do too!
Thank you for stopping by and have a great day!
– Julia
